Christmas_cottagingThe underlying problem with anti-social behaviour in Highbury Park has been a long standing issue for people with more spare time than is good for them. In an interesting move, it seems that King Heath Business Improvement District has decided to tackle the problem head on and celebrate the seedier side of park life in its Christmas Lights.

We  spoke to the BID and this is what they told us. “For too long we’ve swept this under the table, ok, if you go for a wander in the park there is a good chance that you’ll find a man mixing up a hand shandy in a bush. We say it’s about time we started embracing this sort of behaviour, though we do suggest you embrace this metaphorically rather than literally as it is still illegal and isn’t likely to do your long term employment prospects any good.

When we designed our lights we wanted all parts of Kings Heath life represented experiencing the magic and wonder of Christmas. This is our small tribute to the strange men in the park.”

Of course no discussion of Highbury Park could really take place without once again considering Councillor Martin Mullaney’s ground breaking documentary

Remember to wear a coat, it’s cold outside.
