There are few things that drag this lazy site of its tired arse like an election. Obviously mock outrage at a supermarket comes close but at the end of the day elections are where the real business of local engagement\/involvement take place.

\nSo on May the (check date) we will once again go to the polls to select a champion. Someone virtuous enough to represent the collective views of Moseley and work tirelessly for good.
\n
\nSo who’ve we got this year? You can find out easily enough (we had to ask someone for the link) off the\u00a0City\u00a0Council web site<\/a>, it’s a PDF, what can you do?
\n
\nIf you can’t be bothered with that, and let’s be fair we only really care about the people who plan on getting our vote, then here is our quick\u00a0summation of the candidates.<\/p>\n

Martin Mullaney – Lib Dem
\n<\/span>He’s\u00a0incumbent\u00a0and as such a known quantity. You know what you’re getting with Martin so there isn’t a lot to say. He romped home to victory, in 2004, with bold claims of a new railway for Moseley. Eight years later and this is still as \u00a0ridiculous a proposition as it was in 2004. Though it isn’t fair to judge someone on what \u00a0they promised when they were giddy with new found power, what has he done for us?<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He has brought Moseley to national attention on a number of\u00a0occasions. He racially abused a fellow Councillor incurring the wrath of any right thinking person<\/a>, he used his Cabinet position in charge of leisure and culture to put some kids in hospital just before Christmas<\/a>.\u00a0Obviously\u00a0competency isn’t an accusation that will be levelled at him any time soon. On the flip side he is very very amusing, only last week he was found wanting by the City Standards Committee, yet again<\/a>.<\/div>\n

Lisa Trikett – Labour<\/span><\/div>\n
As far as we can work out Lisa is currently standing on the not being Martin Mullaney ticket. We can appreciate that, but have a feeling that after the election the novelty of this will wear off quite quickly. At the end of the day most of us deal with not being Martin Mullaney on a daily basis with little or no benefits or consequences. It would be nice to hear a vision for Moseley (and Kings Heath if we have to).<\/div>\n

William Lilley – Green<\/span><\/div>\n
William has stuck it out for a few years now. \u00a0Over the last few years he has consistently won himself the accolade as one of the very few people that speaks any sense. We could do a lot worse than have William as a Councillor. Having said that we will go as far as to predict that he won’t win. We will also \u00a0go as far as to predict that come the hustings he won’t have prepared a speech \u00a0and might have a ridiculous excuse as to why he was prevented from doing so, probably involving a dog. Come on William these things don’t sneak up, get writing \u00a0now.<\/div>\n

Alan Blumenthal – UKIP
\n<\/span>This man is hustings gold dust. Nobody knows Alan until they’ve seen him live. Alan’s delivery is purely focussed on securing appropriate rights for androids. There aren’t any Androids in Moseley (a bold claim) so his chances are limited.<\/div>\n

John Turner – Conservatives
\n<\/span>We have no idea who he is. The Conservatives gave up on Moseley once they entered into a Faustian pact with the Lib Dems. The collapse of the Lib Dems as any force in politics might mean they are taking it seriously this year but who knows? We liked it when they had Maura Judges<\/a>\u00a0standing for them. At least when ever anyone mentioned her name we could say “does she?” (we\u00a0interpreted her surname as a verb rather than a proper noun, it was funny).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0It does look like the days of quality candidates like Bangkok Ken<\/a> are behind us.<\/div>\n
